Behavior Management

Behavior Management Plan:

There will be a lot of laughs in first grade but in order to create a learning environment that allows all students the opportunity to learn and grow we have a few rules that we follow.

 1.  Be Safe 2.  Be Respectful 3. be Kind

Punch Cards

Both first grade teachers use a punch card system. When students make a positive choice in the classroom, they receive hole punch on their punch card. When a student receives 10 punches on their card they will be able to choose from a stack of incentive cards offering rewards such as “Shoes Off for a Lesson” , “Bring a Stuffie to School” or “Eat Lunch with the Teacher”.

This gives the student verbal praise coupled with the visual cue of seeing their punch card fill up. This helps them see their own progress with the good choices they make!

The 7 Habits of Happy Kids is a book written by Sean Covey that seeks to teach students the power of living by principles.  The 7 Habits addressed in this book are: Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek to Understand, Be a Team Player, and Sharpen the Saw.  These will be modeled and recognized in students throughout the year.  I will recognize students for demonstrating these behaviors as well as students will be given the chance to practice recognizing these attributes in others.
